Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society Request

for assistance for refugee newcomers

Ø The Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) at the Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society provides the foundation work required for the settlement of refugee new comers.  The RAP staff locate and process the rental accommodations for these families and help them to move to their new homes.  They rely on the generosity of the community to donate furniture and all other usable items to furnish the new homes for these families.  Currently they are in need of the following:

Ø Furniture, mostly bed frames, mattresses, dining tables and chairs, sofa sets, kitchen ware and utensils, small desks, TVs, and any other items

Ø Clothing, especially winter jackets and pants

Ø Blankets and bedding

Ø Baby items such as diapers, crib, stroller, clothing etc.

Ø Volunteers to help move the furniture with the staff

Ø A truck and a driver who is willing to help when needed to move the items

If you are able to help, please contact Swedini Halliday at hippy@cvims.org or 250-619-3025

MESSAGES FROM THE DIOCESE

TRUTH & RECONCILIATION COMMITTEE:

Here at Holy Trinity we are forming a Truth & Reconciliation Committee, under the guidance of the Diocese, for ways in which we can begin to walk with our First Nations neighbours on the Truth & Reconciliation journey. If you are interested in being a part of the committee please contact our church office.

GUIDE FOR CATHOLICS ON BODILY DISPOSITION AND GRIEF:

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has released "Burying the Dead, Grieving Well: A Guide for Catholics on Bodily Disposition and Grief." This guide reflects on how we treat the bodies of the deceased and how we live out our grief when faced with the death of a loved one. It deals with death and the various forms of bodily disposition, as well as the Catholic liturgical and pastoral practices that accompany the grieving process. A copy is attached, and the guide is also available on our website at https://www.rcdvictoria.org/ funerals-and-burials.

CAMP HOMEWOOD

The Diocese of Victoria Youth Retreat on Quadra Island returns on February 3-5, 2023, for an exciting in-person 20th year. More details and a registration link will be shared soon at https://www.rcdvictoria.org/events/camphomewood-youth-retreat-2023.

SSVDP...

continues to serve the needy in our community. As the cost of living expenses, such as food and rent continue to increase, many people are unable to keep up. Last year the storage space for food items was sold. As a result, we no longer provide hampers to our clients but give gift cards from grocery stores.

Because of this change, if you wish to donate hamper foods for thanksgiving, please place them in your local loaves and fishes or charity food collection boxes.

To contribute to your local SSVDP, use the blue envelopes designated for SSVDP, found in your envelope boxes, or in the lobby. Please include your name so we can acknowledge your donation with an income tax receipt.

The need is real. Our local conference made over 50 deliveries since July, for requests of food and other needs for children and adults.

We appreciate the prayers, financial and moral support of

Holy Trinity parishioners.
